The neighbourhood

Surroundings

Reykjavík Campsite is located in the Laugardalur leisure area, the green heart of the city. In the surroundings, you’ll find the Laugardalslaug geothermal pool, the national football stadium, the Botanical Gardens, the Petting Zoo, and various play- and hike areas. There’s so much to do and see in our surroundings!

We are here to help you make the most of your stay in the city. We´ll give you local tips and book the most exciting tours and excursions. Complimentary pick-up is included in front of our campsite guests.

Transportation

The campsite is 2km out of the center. There is a direct bus line which stops in front of the campsite. The lovely walk to the city center along the seaside takes around 30 minutes.

All necessities are within a 10-minute walk from the campsite's surroundings; bus and tour stop, a grocery store, a bank, an ATM, and various cafés and local restaurants.

Bus#14 stops outside the hostel/campsite and takes you downtown in 10-15 minutes.

Reykjavík Park & Zoo

The Family Park and Zoo in Laugardalur is open all year. The Zoo includes most Icelandic animals, both wild and domesticated, from foxes, reindeer, and seals to cattle, horses, and sheep.

In the summer the Family Park offers many rides and play equipment for children of all ages.

Laugardalslaug swimming pool

Closest to Reykjavík Eco-campsite's surroundings is Laugardalslaug, the city’s largest geothermal pool with extensive facilities, literally next door!

Its facilities include a 50m outdoor pool, an outdoor children’s pool, a paddling pool, two waterslides, numerous hot tubs, a steam bath, a volleyball court, and a mini golf course.

Opening hours:

  • Mon-Fri: 6:30-22:00
  • Sat-Sun: 8:00-22:00

Entrance to the swimming pool is included in The Reykjavik City Card.

Botanical Garden

Reykjavík Eco-campsite's travelers also have free entry to our beautiful Botanical Garden, with woods, ponds, and birdlife. Beneath the branches, the lovely Café Flóra is a hidden gem.

Ice skating rink

Close to our surroundings, you'll find The ice skating rink in Laugardalur. It is suited for ice hockey and figure skating. The venue is indoor and is used for practice, competitions, and the general public.

What to explore

Our recommendations

Other things that we recommend that you take the time to explore the local community like:

Discover SKÚBB

The best ice cream & sorbet in Reykjavik just around the corner – all hand-made using local organic milk and seasonal flavors. Pzzzt, the mango is an absolute treat.

Reykjavík City card

Make the most of Reykjavik with the 1/2/3 day Reykjavik City Card. It opens the doors to public pools, most museums, and the city bus. It can be bought in the museums or tourist information points in the city center or here.

Check the swap shelves

Before going grocery shopping, check out the communal kitchen for food and stuff that fellow travelers have left for you. You might save time and money and discover new tastes. At least – do not buy Salt!

Kaffi Laugalækur

Kaffi Laugalækur is a local café, offering vegan & vegetarian dishes. A great spot 5 min walk away from the Campsite.

Ásmundarsafn sculpture museum

We recommend a visit to the Ásmundarsafn sculpture museum. It’s a beautiful building with contemporary displays and a sculpture garden.

Viðey with a ferry

In the summer, you can take a ferry to Viðey Island, in the midst of Faxaflói Bay. The ferry takes off from the harbor close by.
